Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark Indy on VHS

The new name will only be on the VHS slip case, not in the actual film. Mr. Lucas thought that the movie would fit in better with the other two if it also had the "Indiana Jones and" on the cover. If you would like to know more information on the Raiders name change pay a visit to TheForce.Net. There they have a Q&A with Jim Ward, head of Lucasfilm marketing.

INDY IS BACK...ON VHS

On October 26, 1999 Paramount Home Video is scheduled to re-release the Indiana Jones Trilogy on VHS. The new collection will be digitally-mastered and presented in the letterbox format. *There is some controversy though about Raiders' new title, Lucasfilm renamed "Raiders of the Lost Ark" to "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" (e-mail me your opinion about this). Also, as a part of their "Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones" promotion, 12 feature-length episodes of Young Indiana Jones will be available(finally)!!!

Like other DVD fans I was very disapointed to hear that the new trilogy would not be out on the DVD format. Lucasfilm's Lynne Hale reportedly stated that there "isn't any activity at this time" for a DVD release of those films.

The new Indy VHS tapes

-The video, Payback, is supposed to contain a commercial for the upcoming re-release. You can also go to Lucasfan.com for a realaudio clip of the preview.

Exciting Events I attended at Disneyland:

Feb 97: I met Vice President Walt Disney Imagineers John Hench and Tony Baxter at the Disney Gallery. John Hench was one of the first Walt Disney Imagineers, who helped create Space Mountain and Mission to Mars. Tony Baxter helped create Journey into Imagination, Big Thunder Mountain, and The Indiana Jones Adventure. They both were there for the Imagineering book signing.

May 4 '97: I went to the Light Magic Annual Passholders' Premiere Party. Light Magic, the new parade, was a bit of a mess, but virtually all the rides had minimal lines. Tony Baxter was at a Tomorrowland exhibit answering questions about the New '98 Tomorrowland. We walked right onto Splash Mountain and the Indiana Jones Adventure- and even Dumbo! The only line that we had to wait in was, naturally, for Peter Pan.

August 29 '97: To my surprise I spotted Tony Baxter today inside the New Orleans Square's Le Gourmet shop. He speaking with a cast member about changing the lighting in the square. I followed him and three other imagineers across the park for awhile, then lost them in the crowd.

February 7 '98: I finally bought a new annual pass! It has a picture of the New Tomorrowland on the front. While we were there we saw that they were filming a Coca Cola commercial with the New Tomorrowland  theme. From what I saw the commercial is going to have a family (Mom, Dad, little girl, and little boy) go up to a futuristic Coca Cola "HYPERCOOL" refreshment stand and ask a cast member for a Coke. Then a Coke will be launched out of a hole in the stand and the cast member will catch the bottle in mid air and hand it to the kids. Watch for the commercial sometime this Spring. During sunset it began to rain hard and continued raining for the rest of the night. The crowds died down around eight so there was only a two minute wait for Indiana Jones, a zero minute wait for Roger Rabbit, Haunted Mansion and Pirates.

March 6 '98: Tommorowland is looking really good! They had the Rocket Rods running all day for testing. I saw Tony Baxter again, he was talking to a press group about the renovation. They have finally started passing out decoder cards at the Indiana Jones Adventure again, they look the same as the old ones.

April 3 '98: Wow! The Honey I Shrunk the Audience area is now open and they are already testing the pre-video. The new restaurant, Redd Rockett's Pizza Port, is also open. You can choose from meteoric meatballs and marinara to the solar meltdown ham and cheese sandwich. The new mural is almost complete, with paintings of the new Tommorowland attraction, Rocket Rods. You can also see the new Space Mountain sign, it is pretty neat.

April 17 '98: Things are happening soo fast! The mural on the Circle Vision building is practically complete! The line for Space Mountain has moved to its new home, on the left side of Honey I Shrunk the Audience. I ate at Redd Rockett's Pizza Port while I was there, for both lunch and dinner, the food and service was great. While eating dinner I spotted Tony Baxter also getting a bite to eat. Pretty cool, huh?

May 25, '98: Wow. I am extremely disappointed. Today was my first true encounter with the New Tomorrowland, and to be frank, Disney could have done a LOT better. The Rocket Rods feel like a ride in a convertible with bad brakes, the queue area for the ride leaves much to be desired, and the renovated land is altogether uninspired. Some problems: the land relies almost entirely on a retro theme, letting Disney play it safe and appeal to the Baby Boomers audience, but leaving the rest of us wondering if anyone has a real vision for the future anymore; there is no background music to add atmosphere; the land looks like patched together sections of the old look and the new look: If you're going to do something, guys, do it all the way. Rather than just recycling old ideas and footage, and making it all worse in the process, I wish that the Imagineers had come up with something truly original. Something akin to Disney World's Alien Encounter or Timekeeper attractions would've been nice. Instead of leaving me thrilled and fulfilled by the new rides, the experience left me mourning the PeopleMover, Captain Eo, and Carousel of Progress. Honey, I Shrunk the Audience is the one remotely bright spot in the park, but even that did not quite live up to the standards set by Disney World. Overall, I found the New Tomorrowland lacking in the spirit, atmosphere, insight, and imagination that has made Disney theme parks the happiest places on Earth for over forty years.

TIP: The best time to go to Disneyland is right after December, choose a day that it looks like it may rain. If you do that you will likely be able to do everything in the park.

Indy Cursors for Windows 95

Chris Yura created 3 cursors with an Indiana Jones look (a spearhead, spearhead with Indy's hat beside it, and Indy's hat blowing around in the breeze animation). Chris has included a readme file to help with installation, I recommend downloading the file. If you have any problems, get in touch with Chris at georgey@prolog.net
