Raiders of the Lost Ark Trivia

1. The location of Indy's attempt to blow up the ark is the same as the place R2D2 was abducted by Jawas. This is a canyon in Tunisia.

2. Also, if you watch closely as Indy enters the map room in Raiders, on the left side of the screen, the letters R2D2 are mixed in with the hieroglyphics.

3. As the crate is being lifted from the sub, a German can be heard saying "eins, eins, drei, a(cht)... German for 113(8), as in THX-1138 (George Lucas' first feature film).

4. Look very closely at the wall behind the Ark of the Covenant at the complex hieroglyphics inscribed by "the ancients." Right in the middle are the ever-popular droids, R2D2 and C3PO, shaking hands. Smaller renditions of them also run up and down the posts of the altar that houses the sacred ark.

5. Tom Selleck was once a high prospect for the part of Indiana Jones.

6. Harrison Ford was actually dragged behind the truck for some of the shots. When asked if he was worried, Ford quipped: ``No. If it really was dangerous, they would have filmed more of the movie first.''

7. A fly can be seen crawling into Belloq's mouth (and not reappearing) when he threatens the Ark with a Bazooka.

8. An early draft of the script had Indy travelling to Shanghai to recover a piece of the Staff of Ra. During his escape from the museum where it was housed, he sheltered from machine gun fire behind a giant rolling gong. Also in the same script, Indy and Marion flee the chaos caused by the opening of the Ark in a wild mine-cart chase sequence. Both of these scenes were cut from the script, but ended up in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984).

9. Blooper: As Indy leaves the US, the plane flies over the Golden Gate Bridge, which wasn't completed until 1939, after the film takes place.
